Resource Issues: Economic Development

The Five Mile Creek Greenway Partnership coordinator supports economic development initiatives within the watershed.  Several partnership members have submitted proposals to the Building Communities Planning Assistance Grant at the Regional Planning Council.  Funds from the Safe Affordable Flexible Efficient Transportation Equity Act (SAFETEA-LU) were made available to qualified communities through a proposal process. 

All communities are encouraged to participate in workshops such as Your Town Alabama and Smart Growth.  These workshops and others are supported by the Cawaco RC&D Council. 

The Regional Planning Council of Greater Birmingham supports efforts within the Five Mile Creek watershed for growth planning, including corridor studies, trail location studies and planning advice.
