Cawaco RC&DC and ACES Provide $5,000 Grant for Cane Creek Volunteer Fire Department
With a $5,000 grant provided by Cawaco Resource Conservation & Development Council and the Alabama Cooperative Extension System (ACES), Cane Creek Volunteer Fire Department recently completed firefighter training. CCVFD used grant funds to purchase a laptop, class supplies, curriculum materials, a projector and screen for the Cane Creek Firefighter Training Program.
According to CCVFD Director Terri Bell, “The benefits from this grant are ongoing … Learning new skills enables firefighters to avoid injury and accidents and keeps firefighters better informed. Approximately 10-15 firefighters participated in each class.”
The training program has given volunteer firefighters the ability to locate people in a structure fire, extinguish fires, identify and contain hazardous materials, and provide life support. Through the training program, the area’s residents have had the opportunity to attend fire prevention classes. Cane Creek Volunteer Fire Department is located at
915 Warrior Jasper Road in Warrior. Project Director is Terri Bell, Director, CCVFD.
