Cawaco Helps Clean Up Roadside Trash

Cawaco RC&D Council initiated a roadside trash pickup program modeled after the Black Diamond RC&D in Virginia. The program combines probationary activity and roadway clean up.

A judge assigns a probationer to the program and the probationer is assigned a section on roadway by Jefferson County Land Development.  Land Development examines the roadway before assigning and visually gardes the probationers performance after it has been picked up.  Currently 41 probationers in Jefferson County are assigned at roadsides.

Simple, affective. That’s so Cawaco.

I love the idea of using FREE labor. I think it will not only keep the state highways temporarily cleaner, it will reduce cost. But most of all, it has potential to make a long-range impact on the way people view littering.
